Mellow Yellow

I’m just mad about saffron

Saffron’s mad about me

They call me mellow yellow (quite rightly).

~Donovan

Unlike Donovan, I admit to nothing, folks. I’m just saying I like the color yellow.

Okay, here’s the deal: I decided to put a challenge to myself (since no one else stepped up to the plate, ahem). My rules are simple:

a. Pick a color.

b. Pick a song lyric or quote to go along with the color.

c. Choose three photographs from my portfolio that display said color.

This post is my first time unto the breach, dear friends. After browsing dozens of my photos I begin to despair at the choice of yellow. What was I thinking?? Hmm…perhaps it was the banana peel.

I spotted this lovely yellow rose among the grasses and wild flowers along the walk from the village of Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle. Okay, so yeah. This one was an easy yellow choice. Not too worry the next two will be a bit less obvious.

I spotted this lovely mellowish, proudly and most definitely yellow rose among the grasses and wild flowers along the walk from the village of Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle. Yeah, yeah, I hear you. This one was a straightforward choice. Not too worry the next two will be a bit less so.

Okay, I'll admit it. I got really lucky finding this capture. Yellowed stained glass window at Jedburgh Abbey in the amazing Scottish Borders. My husband and I fell in love with the area.

Yeah, I’ll admit it. I got really lucky finding this capture since it was hidden, nay buried along with quite a few other shots I’d completely forgotten about. A pretty cool mellowed and much yellowed stained glass window at Jedburgh Abbey in the amazing Scottish Borders. My husband and I fell in love with the area.

Should anyone viewing this post get it into their heads to follow suit and take part in the Mellow Yellow challenge, please leave me a link to your post in the comments. I’d love to see what you come up with.

  1. Great post, cool pics as per usual (Ilove the Jedburgh Abbey one! Stunning light!) and what a great idea for a blog post. I will probably join you in this venture and post some ‘yellow’-themed pictures when I get round to it (there’s a quote about procrastination but I’ll look that up later!)

    • Hah! Yeah, and I wrote a song about procrastination. Well, part of a song. Okay, it was only the first line, but it’s a start, right? I’ll get back to it one of these days…

Thanks for stopping by! Please do let me know if you decide to post a photo or one of your paintings en jaune!

  2. what a great idea 🙂 and I like your yellow theme a lot, especially since you’ve illustrated it so beautifully with your photos. The Jedburgh Abbey one is particularly special. Years and years and years ago, I wrote a short play called, would you believe it ‘Yellow’ – it was for a drama exam. Of course I can’t remember a thing about it so it was obviously not one that ‘ran and ran’ as they say but, I remember being quite proud of it at the time. My first and last foray in to writing a script. So dear friend, that’s my yellow period over but maybe I can come up with something dazzling in blue for you? xoxo

    • I love the idea of a play titled “Yellow”! I don’t blame you for only writing the one script, though. Anytime I’ve dipped my toe in script writing I wanted to tear my hair out. Just too limiting a medium for me.

Actually, I seem to recall that you’ve done some lovely drawings on your iPad that featured yellow quite prominently! I don’t see why my made up challenge need be limited to photos. Why not include paintings, digital drawings, and whatnots? Regardless, it’s funny that you mentioned blue, as I’d scribbled an outline for a Blue Velvet challenge. Dazzling Blue sounds fabulous, as well! Thank you tonnes for stopping by, for your lovely comments, and your “Yellow” story. xoxo

  4. Challenges are not my thing, but I enjoyed this post so much that I decided to participate. I hope others will too. I’m with Lottie…I like all three of your images, but the Abbey window is my favorite.
My post is entitled “Yellow is the Color”. I totally copied your color and artist although a different tune. 🙂

    • Thrilled that you participated, Steve!

All your photos are stunning and I had a difficult time choosing my fav. I love that you picked a different Donovan song and a fabulous one, at that. 🙂
